red light/green light

2025-2026

Nightlife spaces have long served as havens for marginalized communities, sites of resistance, and platforms for radical self-expression. These scenes are both creative sanctuaries and survival zones. red light/green light explores the tension between celebration and surveillance, exposure and empowerment by documenting nightlife performers - Gogo dancers, drag performers, and burlesque dancers, whose labor, artistry, and vulnerability challenge dominant narratives about sex, identity, and power. As state-level legislation in the United States increasingly targets drag performance, reproductive rights, and gender-affirming care, nightlife continues to function as both a sanctuary and a battleground: a place where marginalized bodies assert their right to exist, desire, and define themselves on their own terms.
